Jeans Day: June 21st – Akron Pregnancy Services

This month VanDevere employees are donating to Akron Pregnancy Services as part of their monthly Jeans Day Charity Drives!  All donations will be matched by the company and donated to the group.

Akron Pregnancy Services is a safe place where women can go to get help when they are facing an unplanned pregnancy; a place where they can process their options and leave with a clear perspective. On a daily basis they see women, and men, feeling emotionally overwhelmed and fearful about an unplanned pregnancy.  APS is a safe, nonjudgemental place where all of their options can be explored. Many of our staff and volunteers have been through a similar experience as our clients and understand the pressures an unplanned pregnancy may bring.  You can find out more at akronpregnancyservices.com.

Any customer wishing to donate to this cause and have their donation matched, are welcome to drop off the donation at any VanDevere location!

Jeans Day: March 15th – Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit & Medina Counties

“There is Hope…for families of violence, women, men and children who are in danger of physical, emotional and sexual abuse.  The Battered Women’s Shelter of Summit and Medina Counties provides emergency services and supportive services to victims seeking to end family violence.  Unlike other agencies that focus on victims of all types of crime, BWS is the only agency in Summit/Median County that focus on family violence, intervention and prevention.” (BWS Website)

The VanDevere Bunch Goes to Bat for Barberton Diamond Sports

Akron, Feb. 21, 2018 – The VanDevere Bunch is partnering with the Barberton Diamond Sports in Barberton. The VanDevere Bunch has joined forces with the national Chevrolet Youth Baseball program to provide new equipment, invitations to FREE instructional clinics, and an opportunity for community members to earn donations for their league via a Test Drive fundraiser.

“Playing the game of baseball helps kids develop skills like leadership, cooperation and sportsmanship while bringing families and communities together to show their support. The VanDevere Bunch and Chevrolet Youth Baseball are proud to participate in a sport that brings so many smiles to kids and families in Akron.” said Lori Sams, Marketing Director for The VanDevere Bunch. “Chevrolet believes that in play, there are possibilities and supports the spirit of teamwork that baseball instills in its players.”

2018 marks Chevrolet’s Youth Baseball program’s 13th year, and since its introduction has helped aid local teams, benefiting more than 12.4 million young people in communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work and play. In 2017, more than 1,500 Chevrolet dealers participated across the country.

The VanDevere Bunch will present an equipment kit that includes useful items such as batpacks, scorebooks, industrial-strength batting tees, ball buckets and T-shirts. The sponsorship also includes youth clinics featuring current and former MLB/MiLB players and coaches, or instructors from Ripken Baseball.

In addition, The VanDevere Bunch will present a check representing a one-time monetary contribution to Barberton Diamond Sports. Sponsored leagues across the country will have the chance to earn additional funds as community members take test drives at their partnering dealership to help support the league.

In addition to its commitment to youth baseball, Chevrolet also is the Official Vehicle of Major League Baseball™.

“Chevrolet vehicles are designed and built for families, safety and fun, so we encourage young people and their parents to make a Chevrolet the official vehicle of their household,” said Sams.

Thrive & Drive 2017: Raffle Winner Announced

For the past few years, VanDevere Inc., has given organizations in the community the opportunity to participate in a new car raffle to earn money.  These organizations have to have a focus on the children in our community.   They sold tickets for the New Car Raffle and kept all the proceeds to use in their organization.   It is a great fundraiser for these groups.

This year the participating groups were:

–       Akron Area Soap Box Derby

–       Catholic Charities

–       Indian Guides

–       Camp Y-Noah

–       Ohio Lightning Softball

–       Wesley Temple

–       4-H Rough Riders

–       Suffield Lego Club

–       Impact Sports Academy

The groups invested a small amount of money to get the tickets and the banners to advertise the raffle.   They sold the tickets for $10 each and each ticket was a change to win a brand new 2017 Kia Soul.  All the money they made from the sales went directly to the organizations.   The winner of the new Soul came from the Rough Riders sales.

This year’s winner is Brenda M. of Akron.   If you saw the video on our VanDevere Bunch Facebook page you will see that it was a comical sight.  We drew the name the morning of December 13th, live on Facebook.  Jerry VanDevere called our winner, Brenda, only to have her not believe him and hang up.   It took some time and phone calls from Brenda’s sister to have her believe she actually won.   She has experience some “you won a cruise” calls and was a little suspicious.   Before the end of the day we were in touch with Brenda and gave her the info about her prize.

To say that Brenda was excited is an understatement.   She informed us that she had a 10 year old car and that she would like to take the car.  There is an option to take the cash prize.   There was only one issue, the income tax that you must pay when you win such a prize.   For anyone that is familiar with taxes, this tax you have to pay isn’t just pocket change and may be hard for some of us to come up with.  Thankfully for Brenda’s group of awesome friends.   They chipped in to help out Brenda with the taxes so that she could get herself her FIRST brand new car!

She was so excited to pick up her new car and the smile on her face when she got in it, was glowing.  What a great way to start a new year, with a brand new car!

We congratulate Brenda and thank the organizations for participating.

Thrive and Drive is just one of the few ways VanDevere gives back to the community.  We do this because, we live here. We are all family!

If you have an organization that is focused on bettering the lives of our community’s children please feel free to shoot me an email at loris@vandevere.com.

Jeans Day: December 14th – Coats for Kids

This month the employees will be collecting and donating children’s coats.   There are many kids in the area that are without proper coats for the cold temperatures.   VanDevere will match the employees donations for the Coats for Kids.

Each month the employees are given the opportunity to wear jeans and to donate to a charity in our own backyard.   This is just one of the ways that the VanDevere Bunch gives back to the community!

Jeans Day November 16th — Community Volunteer Group

This month the VanDevere Bunch is collecting money for the Community Volunteer Group. The Community Volunteer Group raises money for Transitional Housing Units shelter for young adults who are in the process of aging out of the foster care system.  These young adults are at high risk for early pregnancy, unemployment, incarceration, homelessness and many other risks.  So they need all the support they can get from their community.
